While the world was watching the FIFA World Cup final, Twitter dropped a surprise and prohibited links advertising other social networks. Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post are presently on the list. In addition, link-in-bio technologies like Linktree and Lnk. Bio are also prohibited, despite the fact that these services are widely utilized by both creators and corporations. You can't add links to your other social accounts or even enter your handle in a tweet.
Twitter "no longer enables free marketing of some social media networks," according to Elon Musk's business. According to the firm, all accounts "made exclusively for the purpose of advertising other social networks" would be deleted. It also intends to eliminate material links from the aforementioned social networks.
"We recognize that many of our users are engaged on other social media platforms; but, Twitter will no longer allow free marketing of particular social media sites on Twitter in the future," the social media platform stated on its policy website.
If you connect out your handles, Twitter will ask you to remove your tweets, and several infractions will result in a temporary account freeze. If you have connections to any of these sites in your bio, the firm will temporarily suspend your account and request that you modify your profile.
What's intriguing here is that the Musk-led firm would allow you to post your handle if you pay to promote the tweet.
Taylor Lorenz, a Washington Post journalist, had her Twitter account disabled on Saturday night. Lorenz had lately erased all of her tweets and had only three postings on her account: two advertising her other social media accounts and one requesting Musk's response on a piece she is working on with fellow Post writer Drew Harwell. Harwell was briefly prohibited, along with others such as the New York Times' Ryan Mac and CNN's Donie O'Sullivan, after tweeting on how Mastodon's Twitter was blocked for linking to the Elon Jet Mastodon account. After Musk issued a poll allowing people to vote on the journalists' fate, he and other journalists were restored.
This regulation did not yet exist when Lorenz posted her other social media names and was suspended. Her account appeared to have been restored at the time of publishing.
